Zermatt should be on every skier’s bucket list. The famed Matterhorn, legendary on mountain après, and the charming mountain village all make this a must visit destination in the Swiss Alps. Last season we got the chance to ski Zermatt and experience this unforgettable location. The skiing was amazing but what really put this destination over the top was our accommodations. We stayed at the Europe Hotel & Spa for 4 nights and it was hands down one of my favorite trips from last ski season.

Location

Imagine waking up to this view every day, well I got to, this was the view from my hotel room balcony at The Europe Hotel last year. Zermatt is a very walkable village, in fact there are no cars, there are small electric taxis and shuttle buses, but the Europe Hotel & Spa is walking distance to everything you will need.

When you arrive in Zermatt you’ll arrive at the train station, no cars means anyone taking a taxi all the way to the village will be dropped off at the train station, but most people take the train. Europe Hotel offers free pick up in their electric shuttle from 7am-7pm, make sure to contact the hotel ahead of arrival to arrange. However, the hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the train station, depending on how much luggage and gear you have.

If you need gear rentals, be sure to get a voucher from the front desk at check in. The hotel partners with several rental shops, all within steps of the hotel, to give guests a discount on equipment rentals.

Guests are just a 10-minute walk to lifts, or you can take the free shuttle bus in town to different lift stations. Then after a long day of skiing you are right around the corner to one of the best après bars in Zermatt, Papperla Pub!

Truly couldn’t have a better location, close to shops, restaurants and lifts. Plus, most rooms have a perfect view of the famed Matterhorn!

Accommodations and Amenities

There is so much to see and do around Zermatt, but the Europe Hotel & Spa has plenty to offer guests right on site! Guest rooms and suites offer a cozy but modern alpine retreat to unwind after a long day on the mountain, I loved the adorable sheep photos sprinkled throughout the hotel! The team is welcoming and friendly and can help with any of your questions about Zermatt.

All guest rooms have a designated ski locker and each locker even has boot heaters installed so your boots will be toasty and dry each day! The wellness and spa area was one of my favorite places to relax after a long day spent skiing. There is a larger heated whirlpool, sauna, steam room, and relaxation room. There is also a select menu of spa services available, I booked a hot stone massage to loosen all my muscles after days of skiing and highly recommend treating yourself!

Drink and Dining

Europe Hotel & Spa is home to OVIS Restaurant and Black Nose Bar, another great spot for après drinks. OVIS is Latin for sheep, a motif you will see throughout the hotel’s decor and design. Europe Hotel offers meal-inclusive packages and OVIS is a must for dinner! Every night there is a pre-fixe 5 course menu that changes daily, the menu focuses on locally sourced fresh dishes with a modern alpine flair. During my stay we did one of the meal-inclusive packages that included dinner and breakfast at OVIS.

Breakfast at the Europe Hotel & Spa

The breakfast buffet had a wide selection with something for everyone. This is not an average pastries and fruit breakfast buffet! There were fresh meats, cheese, eggs, bacon, yogurts and more! It was the perfect way to fuel up before a day on the mountain. Dinner at OVIS was one of the highlights of our stay, even if you don’t stay at the Europe Hotel, I highly recommend going to OVIS for dinner one night if you’re in Zermatt.

With its premier location, chic yet cozy accommodations, and outstanding dining, Europe Hotel & Spa is our top choice for skiers visiting Zermatt. It offers everything you could need or want for a mountain retreat in the Swiss alps. Whether you’re hitting the slopes at dawn, seeking restorative spa moments at dusk, or savoring gourmet alpine meals in between, this hotel ensures every element of your stay enhances the magic of Zermatt.
